After 20 years of bootstrapping, Danish data protection company Keepit has raised $30 million from growth investor One Peak to continue expanding across Europe and throughout the US. The round is the single largest SaaS investment in a bootstrapped company in the Nordics, according to Crunchbase. The startup has built a Backup-as-a-Service software that specialises in protecting data from SaaS solutions such as Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Dynamics 365 and G Suite. The larger cloud providers offer uptime and data protection against intruders but don't offer a built-in backup solution of the SaaS data, should anything happen to it. Keepit helps users, well, keep it.
In a press release, the startup explained its current goal is to continue building brand awareness and customer trust so that Keepit can compete against the few, large global players in a market worth about $12 billion per year. CEO and co-founder Frederik Schouboe says they just signed their biggest client yet, offering no names but that the workforce is 30,000 strong. With the first-ever outside investment, the Danish company will double its own headcount by expanding teams in Copenhagen; Kyiv and Lviv, Ukraine; as well as satellite offices in the US and elsewhere.
