Pellegrini SpA has acquired Milan-based startup Mymenu, which delivers high-end food to Italian households.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, but Pellegrini - the largest family-owned holding of food and welfare companies in Italy - will let Mymenu operate independently under its umbrella, at least for now.
Mymenu, operated since 2013 by its original three founders and backed by the likes of P101 and Club Italia Investimenti 2, says it manage to nearly double its sales in 2020 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
By joining forces with Pellegrini, the startup gets instant access to hundreds of the latter's corporate customers, and can develop new products and services.
The buyer gets tech skills and a digital-savvy team of 20 staff in return.
"By acquiring Mymenu, we aim to reach new markets and new target customers in a landscape in continuous evolution such as the smart working. We want to expand the offer for our customers, their employees and their families, taking care of their welfare even off work," commented Valentina Pellegrini, Vice President at the Pellegrini group.
