Germany’s CampDay and the Netherlands’ Campingfinder have announced a merger of their online camping facilities booking services.
The two booking platforms will now operate under the new name Campsy to further develop their presence in the German and Dutch markets with further European expansion planned for 2017.
Rocket Internet launched CampDay in April of this year and now lists 500 camping sites while Campingfinder, founded in 2014, has 300 listings. Consumers can search for and compare campsites.
Campsy will modernise a largely “pen and paper business”, according to Christian Timmermann, cofounder.
“We put heavy emphasis on garnering intimate knowledge of our user base. This meant spending a significant amount of time researching out in the field, establishing a clear picture of the multitude of different holiday-makers and their diverse set of motifs for spending time out camping as well as of what the current needs of camp site operators are,” added other cofounder Philipp Hillenbrand.
“Merging as Campsy will benefit both our customers and our campsites, immediately increasing both supply and demand across the two countries,” said Campingfinder cofounder Werner Huijboom. “Moreover, being backed by Rocket Internet will give us the opportunity to grow with unmatched momentum in Europe. We are very much looking forward to what is to come and to further expand our business to new camping markets.”
