Sword Health, a Portuguese medtech company, has raised $4.6 million in a seed round from Green Innovations and Vesalius Biocapital III.
The Porto-based startup has developed an AI-enabled physiotherapy solution called Sword Phoenix for physical rehabilitation that harnesses data collected by sensors, which is monitored by remote physiotherapists.
“Demand for physical rehabilitation therapy is rising around the world, yet for many people the therapy they need is out of reach,” said CEO Virgílio Bento, explaining that there needs to be more options for people to rehab at home.
“Our mission is to democratise access to effective physical rehabilitation therapy, and deliver increased operational efficiency to national health services, healthcare providers and insurance companies through our platform,” he said.
According to the company, the solution will reduce the costs of physiotherapy for healthcare providers while providing data on patients’ recovery.
