Swedish travel tech startup Triple has raised $500,000 from former Spotify CTO Andreas Ehn, former European CEO of Spotify Jonathan Forster, and Wrapp cofounder Lisa Enckell.
Triple is a marketplace for travellers to book activities in new destinations and for locals to host events for visitors. It was launched in May of this year in Sweden, Paris, London, and Barcelona and is generating revenue of $15,000 a month, the company said. It now plans to launch in more cities.
The market for tours and activities still has a lot of middlemen, said CEO Joakim Grönvall.
“We want to give locals and guides a way of reaching travelers and giving them a more personal and memorable experience through Triple,” he said. “By adding reviews as an important part of the experience, particularly on each individual host, we allow them to compete with their skills, instead of just availability and price.”
“This is an experienced and passionate team who are solving a problem that everyone can relate to – feeling like a tourist when traveling,” said new investor Andreas Ehn. “By offering ways for locals to show their city or passion, they create a personal platform, where people connect through their travel experiences.”
