Startup Spotlight: Dublin-based Voysis wants to build the dominant platform for voice recognition

Voice-controlled features are having their moment. Amazon’s Alexa, Google Home, and Apple’s Siri are dominating the space. Amazon’s Echo for example now commands more than 70% of the US market for voice-controlled speakers.

“Google and Amazon can influence consumers in such a way, they’re making people realise that voice technology can actually be really good now,” said Peter Cahill, CEO and founder of Dublin-based Voysis, which offers an AI-powered voice recognition and control platform.

Voysis has developed an API that allows companies to integrate voice recognition features into their own apps and services. Cahill founded the company, which raised $8 million earlier this year led by Polaris Partners, after spending several years in academia around areas like text and speech synthesis.
