A timely throwback to last May's Tech.eu Summit, where I sat down with LocalGlobe founder Saul Klein during the opening sessions to get his take on how - and where - to scale up European Tech.
LocalGlobe recently morphed into Phoenix Court Group, adding hundreds of millions of euros worth of firepower to continue backing founders from pre-seed right on through to an IPO and beyond. Saul and his father Robin Klein have been around the block so many times you'd think they'd be too dizzy to keep going, but here we are.
I started off reminding Saul of the days, now about 15 years ago at the Plugg conference (RIP), when he would have to argue hard about why he event believed in Europe's potential as a hotbed for innovation.
That was also in Brussels, which he says is well within the 'New Palo Alto' region that Saul likes to talk about - anything that's less than a four-hour train ride from London is part of it (that includes places like Cambridge of course, but also Paris and Amsterdam).
Many of his predictions about where things were heading back then turned out to be absolutely spot on, so it's worth listening to the man talk about where we are now, how we got here, and what is bound to happen next.
