The Tech.eu Summit: Here’s what you missed in 2022

While it’s still three months and some change out, May 24th - just in case you haven’t already marked your calendar or bought a ticket, the second edition of the Tech.eu Summit is coming up faster than you think.

As with just about every event last year, things were a bit touch and go. We too were doing a bit of hand-wringing when it came to rules and regulations and whether or not the health and safety inspectors were going to let us go ahead with welcoming the whole lot of you animals into one space.

Needless to say, they did, and we did, and you did. And it was awesome!

In case you didn’t join the movers and shakers that are now able to call themselves Tech.eu Summit OG, here are some highlights you missed:

We welcomed some big-name policymakers including the EU Commissioner for Innovation & Research Mariya Gabriel who underlined, that despite recent economic events, the future looks bright for startups in Europe.

As well as Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo who appealed for more diversity in tech. “We make better decisions when we have more diversity," De Croo said. "We need to make sure that we leverage the educated women we have in our society as they can be great role models in the tech world.”

Digging into the content Saul Klein from LocalGlobe spoke candidly about scaling up European startups to drive innovation and sustainability.

As well as WISE CEO and co-founder Kristo Käärmann speaking to just how important it is to empower innovation at the local, grass-root level.

Our afternoon sessions took a look at the metaverse, deep tech, the future of NFTs, European tech sovereignty, and crypto, with Giovanna Graziosi Casimiro, metaverse producer from Decentraland, Rahim Attaba, VP of marketing at The Sandbox and Simon Foucher, CEO of Metav.rs sharing insights into the world of metaverse and Web3 in an engrossing session.

Meanwhile, Ethan Pierse, co-founder and producer of Series.E Media, Daria Saharova, co-founder and investor of World Fund, Aline Vedder, principal at Lakestar and Nick de la Forge, co-founder of Planet A underlined the importance of building and nurturing sustainable ecosystems.

And while he fervently denies it, Robin hosted Heini Zachariassen, founder and chief evangelist of wine-rating app Vivino in order to get some tips on what pairs best with a vintage Bordeaux.

While the overall tone at the Tech.eu Summit was one of serious people doing serious business, true to form, I wouldn’t have been me if I couldn’t get our Founding Editor Robin Wauters to crack a smile (without even breaking stride in his thoughts I might add) with a well place microphone.

Now if you think that was a lot to pack into one day, you’re right. It was. But learning absolutely nothing from our previous edition, we’re going right back at it, this time only bigger, better, strong, and loaded up with more power brokers than you’d care to shake a stick at.

We’ve already lined up 35 speakers, and are adding more by the date. I’d love to tell you that the programme is finalised, but it’s not, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if you’re not in Brussels on the 24th of May 2023, it would be a massive career mistake.

So don't be like Bob, get your ticket today, and don't miss out on May 24th, 2023 in Brussels!
